Cardiothoracic Surgery Laboratory

Our program is actively involved in basic science and clinical research pertaining to cardiovascular disease. We have a molecular biology laboratory on the UC San Diego campus consisting of postdoctoral Ph.D. fellows and surgical residents interested in myocardial gene therapy, angiogenesis and basic mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension.

This group is devoted to bringing the advances of molecular biology to the realm of cardiac surgery. In addition, our surgeons are involved in large animal surgical experiments pertaining to cerebral blood flow during cardiopulmonary bypass, and mechanisms of transplant rejection.
