Programs
Basic and Translational Sciences program dedicates itself to the scientific
investigation and application of research in the field of organ donation. The board of directors guides efforts to bridge the gap between cutting-edge scientific discovery and clinical practice, ensuring that research findings lead to tangible improvements in donor inclusivity and organ utilization. This program is led by Aleah Brubaker, M.D., Ph.D.
The Education and Innovation program seeks to elevate public and professional
understanding of organ donation while pioneering advancements in organ preservation and donation processes. The objective is to disseminate knowledge widely and foster technological breakthroughs that streamline the efficiency of the organ donation system. This program is led by Mita Shah, M.D.
In the realm of Equity, Policy, Ethics, and Economics, REIMAGINE endeavors
to address challenges in the current organ donation system. This pillar ensures that the center's work drives policy changes and promotes a transplantation system characterized by fairness and justice, offering equitable access to all individuals. This program is led by Sheri Hartman, Ph.D.
The fourth program, centered on Compassion, Mindfulness, and Wellness, explores the intersection of the science of compassion, mindfulness and organ donation. It recognizes both the emotional weight borne by donor families and the cognitive and emotional demands placed on healthcare providers. By integrating evidence-based mindfulness practices and compassionate communication strategies, this pillar seeks to enhance support systems for caregivers, mitigate burnout among professionals, and foster a culture of empathy and resilience throughout the donor journey. Through research and application, it aims to advance our understanding of how mindfulness and compassion can shape decision-making, improve family experiences, and strengthen the well-being of those involved in organ donation. This program is led by Fadal Zeidan, Ph.D.
