Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Dominates Western Vascular Society Annual Meeting

From Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, academic affiliates of the UC San Diego Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery participated in the Western Vascular Society Annual Meeting in Hawaii. Of the 64 plenary presentations, five were from UC San Diego, which was more presentations than any other academic institution in the western United States.

Dr. Andrew Barleban and Asma Mathlouthi presented the remarkable long-term outcomes of the Ovation Endograft, a unique solution for difficult Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) repair. Dr. Dakour Aridi shared the outcomes of balloon angioplasty of carotid artery stenting and Dr. Satinderjit Locham presented the impact of volume on outcomes of complex thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Dr. Mahmoud Malas presented his work on the outcomes of TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) with dynamic cerebral blood flow reversal.

Dr. Linda Wang from Harvard, mentored by Dr. Malas, won the best resident presentation on improving survival with endovascular versus open repair of AAA. But UC San Diego wasn’t just visible at the Western Vascular Society Annual Meeting academically: Dr. Omar Al-Nouri won the golf tournament. Join us in congratulating UC San Diego’s Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery on their success!
