Rebeca Dominguez Profeta, M.D.
Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellow
Undergraduate Institution and Medical School: Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado
Residency: Montefiore Eistein
Post-doctoral Fellowship: Minimally invasive surgery, UC San Diego
Clinical Interests: I have a strong passion for foregut surgery, particularly procedures that address complex esophageal and gastric conditions, both for its technical aspects and its transformative impact on patients’ health and quality of life. In addition, I enjoy the management and repair of abdominal wall hernias and metabolic surgery.
Why UC San Diego? During my research year, I had the invaluable opportunity to observe my mentor, Santiago Horgan, M.D., performing complex foregut surgery in the operating room. Witnessing not only his technical expertise but also the patient‑centered system at UC San Diego and its commitment to innovation solidified my decision to pursue a fellowship here. What do you like about San Diego? Moving back to San Diego has been incredibly refreshing for me and my family. We truly love how family-oriented the city is. It feels like the perfect place to raise my two-year-old daughter, who is having a blast exploring the many activities available and the wonderful weather.
