The UC San Diego Department of Surgery and its divisions are deeply committed to educating surgeons of the future.
The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program aims to provide outstanding exposure to complex surgical critical care and to facilitate development of skills compatible with making residents able to emerge into a leadership role. The accredited program offers two clinical positions per year (PGY-6 and above). A second year, with a focus on research (clinical and basic sciences), performance improvement, prevention, and outreach is offered to outstanding fellows who want to pursue a career and become leaders in the field.
The Burn Fellowship Program aims teaches resident the advanced skills, knowledge, and human-touch qualities they need to build the foundation of a successful trauma and burn medicine practice. Since 1973, the UC San Diego Regional Burn Center has been a leader in advances in burn therapy. The professional care of patients is internationally recognized for our skill and knowledge. The state-of-the-art facility has an intensive care unit, a special burn care unit and an outpatient clinic for minor burn assessments and treatment. Over 400 patients are admitted to the Center each year with various levels of injury and hundreds more are treated on an out-patient basis.
