It is my privilege to introduce you to the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UCSD.
I am proud to say that we are one of the top centers for heart and lung surgery in the world, not only in the superior expertise of our surgeons but also in the quality of comprehensive, personalized care we give to all our patients.
We are known throughout the world for the pioneering research and innovative surgical therapy of our group. Since 1989, when our program began, we have performed more than 30,000 major heart and lung operations.
UC San Diego is the international center for the surgical management of pulmonary hypertension. Our surgeons have performed over 2,400 pulmonary thromboendarterectomies (PTEs), the largest number in the world, and we train other surgeons and teams in this operation. The program is also the busiest lung transplant center in California, and our surgery success rates for heart and lung transplantation are top in the field. We also perform all the children's heart surgeries in San Diego.
We specialize in all aspects of cardiothoracic disease, including:
- Coronary artery bypass
- Adult and congenital heart valve repair and replacement
- Heart and lung transplantation
- Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy
- Surgery of the great vessels of the chest including aneurysm surgery
- Congenital heart surgery
- Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy
- General thoracic surgery
Our physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and social workers pay attention to detail – from your first consultative visit, throughout hospitalization, and on through post-operative follow-up care. Twenty-four hours a day, our nurse practitioners are available for outpatient consultation and visits.
Thank you for your interest in UC San Diego Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
