Philip Weissbrod, MD
Assistant Professor of Surgery
Director, Center for Voice and Swallowing
Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery
Dr. Philip Weissbrod, joined the UC San Diego faculty in 2011 as an assistant professor of surgery in the division of otolaryngology, and serves as the director of the Center for Voice and Swallowing. He is certified by the The American Board of Otolaryngology and is fellowship trained in laryngology, a subspecialty that encompasses voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders.
Dr. Weissbrod is attracted to Laryngology because it encompasses the most human of functions: breathing, talking, and swallowing. Eating and communicating are at the root of how we function on a societal and cultural level. Addressing these issues can lead to significant quality of life improvements, especially in patients who are professional voice users or who have complex disease processes such as head and neck cancer, stroke, or neurologic disease. Dr. Weissbrod prides himself on patient education and believes that a patient's understanding of his or her condition is the first and one of the most important steps in treatment.
Dr. Weissbrod is one of a few doctors in the country who specializes in rehabilitation of voice and swallowing disorders. He can restore someone's voice or help a person swallow without any pain.
